Accredited to deliver Mental Health First Aid programs by Mental Health First Aid australia instructor logoBushsong delivers Mental Health First Aid Training to the community at large and also to business organisations.

Whilst many people and organisations ensure that they have a high level of physical first aid training, there has been a lack of addressing the mental health requirements of both the community at large and also the employees of organisations. Many people, both in the community and in business are becoming more aware of the importance of good mental health, but have struggled to find appropriate training and information to meet their needs.

Standard Mental Health First Aid Course

The standard Mental Health First Aid course is a twelve hour, evidence based training program to equip people in dealing with a mental first aid crisis. The training has been developed by Mental Health First Aid in Melbourne and is delivered by accredited instructors. Ric Raftis is one such instructor that can deliver this training to you and your organisation.

Mental Health affects everyone in the community both in their personal life and their business life. Being trained to keep an eye out for people with problems can be unbelievably helpful in preventing the situation from escalating. The training is excellent for businesses, service clubs, men's sheds, sporting clubs to name but a few.

What the Course Covers

The course has been developed using guidelines that have consensus of experts in this field. The types of issues covered include:-

  • Understanding accurate information about suicide rates and risk factors in the Australian context.
  • Reviewing the first aid guidelines of how to intervene when someone is experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • Practicing these skills in a safe environment.

It is not recommended that someone who has been recently bereaved by suicide do this course.  It is not a postvention course, but designed to assist in preventing suicide. Due to the nature of the topic, it can press buttons for some people so it is important that people are feeling well when taking the course.
