Ric Raftis was born in 1955 so you can do the math as to his age. Early in his life he was involved in banking before joining the Army for 3 years. On completion of that time, Ric returned to banking and finance including 3 years overseas with the Papua New Guinea Development Bank as a Training Officer.
Ric continued working in the banking and finance sector until 1988 when he took up a position in a public accounting firm where he eventually became a partner. Ric specialised in business advice and troubleshooting for businesses as well as handling their taxation requirements. He remained in the accounting industry until he suffered his first breakdown in 1998. This resulted in him being off work for a considerable period of time as he was diagnosed with depression and severe anxiety. This diagnosis was eventually changed to bipolar disorder.
Since that time, Ric has developed skills in web development and has also been actively involved in the mental health area. In this regard his activities have included:-
- In conjunction with a fellow Wedderburn citizen, initiated the formation of the Loddon Healthy Minds Committee which is auspiced by the Loddon Shire. Ric is still a member and is the only one of the founding members still serving on the Committee.
- Volunteering as a Community Visitor with the Victorian Office of the Public Advocate. Ric visited in mental health facilities to ensure patients rights were upheld and that they had access to best practice mental health care. This was from 2011 to 2014 when he resigned to pursue the delivery of Mental Health First Aid courses.
- Volunteers as the Vice President of Ride4Life Inc. This is a motorcycle ride to promote awareness of Depression and Suicide Prevention.
Whilst Ric may not have any formal qualifications in the mental health field, he has vast experience in the area and has lived with his own condition since 1998. If this doesn't give someone insight into the area then nothing will.
Now an accredited instructor with Mental Health First Aid, Ric is very keen to pass on the lessons of this course to the community and business alike. You will find his passion for helping people with mental health issues and his desire to assist to be very genuine. Ric also holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Ric's web development skills go back to 1998 when he wrote his first website. It's still live today too! When it comes to the internet, that's a lifetime of experience. You can be assured of modern techniques in web development combined with the best in search engine optimisation practices so you will have a great looking website that gets found.
